Frequently Asked Questions
How does the process work?
We follow a five-step process: Consult → Lock-In → Script & Casting → Shoot Day → Final Cut. You’ll know exactly what to expect from start to finish.
How do I come up with scene ideas?
Don’t worry — we’ll guide you. We’ll brainstorm on the consult call, and our writer will refine everything into scripts tailored to your brand and castable types.
Do I get final say on writing and editing?
Yes, absolutely. You’ll work closely with our writer, editor, and director, and nothing is finalized until you’re happy. You can even see playback on set if you’d like.
How long until I get my edited scenes?
Most edits are ready within 1–2 weeks after the shoot. You’ll receive a first cut, give notes, and then we finalize everything.
How long does the whole process take?
From deposit to delivery, most actors receive their final clips in about 4–6 weeks.
Do you offer rush turnaround?
Yes. If you need your footage faster, let us know — rush delivery is available when our team’s schedule allows.
When is the final balance due?
After the shoot and before editing begins. If you need extra time, just let us know and we’ll hold your footage until the balance is cleared.
Is the deposit refundable?
Deposits cover writing, scheduling, and casting, so they’re generally non-refundable. Exceptions are made only in rare circumstances.
Do I get to approve the actors I’ll be working with?
Yes. We’ll recommend strong, reliable actors, but you’ll have the final say.
How do rehearsals work?
You’ll connect directly with your scene partner to rehearse over Zoom or in person. We’ll also rehearse on set the day of the shoot.
What locations are available?
We offer both exteriors and interiors, including living rooms, offices, interrogation rooms, hospital setups, street scenes, the woods, and more.
Is an acting coach included?
Yes. Every scene includes on-set coaching to make sure your performance is natural, strong, and industry-ready.
Do I get the raw footage?
Yes. Just ask and we’ll provide it.
Will my scenes be separate clips or one reel?
You’ll receive individual clips. If you’d like them cut into a compilation reel, we offer that through Demo Reels NYC— Scenematic clients get 20% off within a month of their shoot.
How long are the scenes?
Scripts are usually 1–2 pages, with final cuts running about 1–2 minutes each.
What should I wear?
We recommend outfits that feel authentic to your type and look good on camera. See our wardrobe guide here.
Do you have makeup recommendations?
Yes — see our guide. You’re also welcome to bring your own makeup artist (just arrive 30 minutes early).
Can I see myself on camera during the shoot?
Yes. We’ll show you a still frame or monitor so you know exactly how you’re coming across.
What should I bring?
Bring your outfits, a script copy, and any props we can’t provide. Extras like water, makeup, or grooming items are always helpful.
Should I shoot indoors or outdoors?
Indoors are quieter and easier to control. Outdoors can add variety but come with noise/weather variables. Both work — what matters most is your performance.
Can I bring my own acting coach?
Yes, though timing is important. Each scene takes about 2 hours, and we’ll need to stay on schedule.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes. A 50% deposit secures your shoot. The balance can be split into smaller payments before editing begins.
Can I book headshots too?
Yes. Our combo package gives you 20% off headshots at City Headshots.
Are all scenes shot the same day?
For 1–3 scenes, usually yes (with a lunch break for longer days). Bigger projects may require multiple days.
How many scenes should I have in a reel?
Most reels include 4–6 scenes. If you don’t have other footage yet, you can submit Scenematic clips individually — casting directors often prefer focused clips.
